Dr. Paez’s contributions to the school district, such as the Holyoke Early Literacy Initiative, were recognized in 2014 by the Campaigns for Grade-Level Reading, which named the program a Pacesetter for the year for its achievement in garnering high attendance outcomes. The Holyoke Early Literacy Initiative was also recognized with the Gateway Cities Innovation Award. Among other achievements, Dr. Paez’s initiative to provide free pre-K classes for underprivileged students was recognized by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care as a model to use when applying for a federal grant.
